Hindi Day

On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly took a historic decision in the official language of the Indian Union and gave the honor of Hindi as the official language. Therefore, every year 14 September is celebrated as 'Hindi Day'. Currently, twenty-two languages have been given the status of national languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. According to the articles mentioned in Part 17 of the Constitution of India, from paragraphs 343 to 351, it is clearly mentioned that Hindi is the official language of the Indian Union and its script is Devanagari.

History-                                                                                                                                          In 1918, Gandhiji had demanded Hindi to be made the official language at the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. Gandhiji also called it the language of the people. In 1949, after much deliberation on the question of the official language of independent India, this decision was taken on 14 September 1949, which is described in Article 343(1) of Chapter 17 of the Constitution of India as follows. The official language of the Sangh shall be Hindi and the script shall be Devanagari. The format of numerals used for the official purposes of the Sangh shall be the international format.

This decision was taken on September 14, which was the 50th birthday of Hindi writer Vyohar Rajendra Singh, hence this day was considered the best for Hindi Diwas. However, when it was selected and implemented as the national language, people in non-Hindi speaking states started protesting and English also had to be given the status of official language. Due to this, English language also started influencing Hindi.

Program-                                                                                                                                                  Many programs are held on Hindi Day. On this day, students are taught to respect Hindi and use Hindi in daily life. In which Hindi essay writing, debate, Hindi typing competition, etc. On the occasion of Hindi Day, Bhasha Samman has been started to motivate people for Hindi. This honor will be given every year to such a personality in the country who has made a special contribution to the use and advancement of Hindi language among the people. One lakh one thousand rupees are given as honorarium for this. Through the Hindi essay writing competition, many suggestions are also being received in many places for the development and expansion of Hindi language. But the next day, everyone forgets Hindi language. Remember Hindi language for a few more days, for this, National Language Week has also been organized. Therefore, it lasts for at least a week in a year.

Manufacturer-                                                                                                                                            In terms of the number of speakers, Hindi is the third largest language in the world after English and Chinese. But the number of people who understand, read and write it properly is very small. It is decreasing. Along with this, English words have also had a great impact on the Hindi language and many words have become popular and have been replaced by English words. Due to this, the possibility of this language becoming extinct in the future has also increased.

For this reason, this day is celebrated as Hindi Diwas to make those who have knowledge of Hindi or know Hindi aware of their duty towards Hindi, so that they can all fulfill their duty and shape the future of Hindi language. Save it from extinction. But both the public and the government seem indifferent to this. Hindi lives as a maid in its own house. Hindi has not yet become a language of the United Nations. It would be ironic to say that Yoga got the support of 177 countries, but what can be gathered for Hindi in 129 countries? It has become such a situation that even on Hindi Diwas, many people have to use words like "Speak Hindi" on Twitter. Amar Ujala has requested people to tweet in Hindi at least on Hindi Diwas.

Purpose-                                                                                                                                                        Its main objective is to make people aware once a year that unless they use Hindi to its fullest, the Hindi language cannot develop. On this day, it is advised to use Hindi instead of English in all government offices. Apart from this, those who do good development work in Hindi throughout the year and use Hindi well in their work are honored with awards.

Many people use English words or even English in their normal speech, due to which the existence of Hindi is gradually being threatened. From television to schools and from social media to private technical institutions and private offices, English continues to dominate everything. This shows that their mother tongue Hindi should gradually decline and then become extinct after decades. If our mother tongue is not given the necessary place in our lives through small efforts, it will lag far behind in the competition of other languages. The world's largest Hindi institute located in Varanasi is also in a very dilapidated state today. For this reason, on this day, everyone is requested to use Hindi only in their spoken language. Apart from this, people are asked to write their thoughts etc. in Hindi. Since very few people know the tools of writing in Hindi, information about writing, checking and dictionaries in Hindi is given on this day. Working for the development of Hindi language by a few people will not be of much use. For this, everyone will have to get organized and take the development of Hindi to a new level. This is necessary for the development of Hindi language and to save it from extinction.

Hindi Week-                                                                                                                                                  Hindi Week is celebrated for a week from September 14. Various competitions are organized during this week. This program is organized in schools and offices. Its main objective is to increase the feeling of development of Hindi language among the people, not limited to Hindi Diwas only. During these seven days, the development of Hindi language and its advantages and disadvantages if not written essays etc. are explained.

Prize-                                                                                                                                                          To encourage people about Hindi, an award ceremony is also organized on Hindi Diwas. In which this award is given to a person who uses Hindi well during work. This was earlier named after politicians, which was later changed to Rashtrabhasha Kirti Puraskar and Rashtrabhasha Gaurav Puraskar. Rashtrabhasha Gaurav Puraskar is given to people while Rashtrabhasha Kirti Puraskar is given to any department, committee etc.

Official Language Award-                                                                                                                          This award is given to any Indian citizen who writes on a technical or scientific topic. There are 13 prizes ranging from ten thousand to two lakh rupees. The first prize winner has been given a prize of two lakh rupees, the second prize winner has been given a prize of one lakh rupees and the third prize winner has been given a prize of seventy-five thousand rupees. Along with this, ten people are given a consolation prize of ten thousand rupees each. All the award winners were also given a memento. Its main objective is to advance the Hindi language in the field of technology and science.

Official Language Achievement Award-                                                                                                    A total of 39 awards are given under this award scheme. This award is given for excellent work done in Hindi by any committee, department, board etc. Its basic objective is to promote the use of Hindi language in government work.

Criticism-                                                                                                                                                       Many Hindi writers and Hindi language experts say that Hindi Diwas is like a government function, which is celebrated for only one day. This does not develop the Hindi language, but rather harms it. Even during the Hindi Diwas celebrations, many people welcome people by writing in English. The government runs it to show that it is working for the development of the Hindi language. Even government employees are seen working in English instead of Hindi. But some people are of the opinion that those who oppose and ridicule Hindi Diwas for various reasons should also lose their affection for Hindi.
